On July 30th 1999, Duff Linde and myself ( Duff is my brother-in-law) climbed Mt. Saint Helens. I waited until after it erupted so as not to have nearly as far to climb. The high point now is just over 8365 ft. Start your climb at Climbers Bivouac at 3800 ft. and make your way though young forests until timberline at about 4800ft. From here everything is up, up and up. Small snowfields and sharp volcanic rock and pumas stay with you all the way to the top. There are a few small glaciers still clinging to the mountain. The view from the top is worth the sweat.
