Antarctica Y2K
This adventure takes me to the seventh and final continent. Along with Henry Baron ( who also achieved his seventh continent ) and 125 other passengers, we left Buenos Aires and flew to the city of Ushuaia at the tip of Argentina. Ushuaia is sometimes referred to as the city at the end of the earth. It has the distinction of being the most southerly city on the planet. We boarded the Russian vessel MV Mariya Yermolova under the command of Sergey Sviridow ( although I never saw this dude until our final night at sea ) and headed across the Drake Passage toward the great white continent.
In all my travels. never have I experienced a complete sense of mystery that lay ahead in the vast ocean of time and space. What drew famous explorers like Ernest Shackletion and Roald Amundsen to these forboding regions of our planet? In just a few days I would know the answer...
